Our History

Get to know a little bit about our company.

At the turn of the century when many Italian immigrants were settling in Denver, Colorado, Old World family recipes were treasured like heirlooms. They were pieces of a families’ heritage. When Joseph Canino married Lena Pagliano in 1917, Joseph’s mother gave the couple her old-world sausage recipe brought with her from Calabria, Italy.

In 1925, Joseph and Lena Canino established the Navajo Meat Market on the corner of 35th and Navajo. The site is now a Denver Landmark.

In 1957, the Navajo Meat Market decided to honor the Canino heritage by changing the name to Canino’s Italian Sausage Company.

Canino’s continuing success allowed them to expand with the new and different sausages. To accommodate popular new sausages the company once again changed it’s name to Canino’s Sausage Company, Inc.
